Computing Facilities

The following facilities are available for use by qualified faculty, staff, and students of the University. For more information, please contact Enterprise Technology.

Computers

• Sun V880. Supports the University's academic functions, including e-mail.
  • Solaris 9 operating system
  • Six 900 MHz UltraSparc II CPUs
  • 12 GBs RAM
• IBM 9672-R26 S/390 G5 Enterprise Server. Supports the administrative functions (i.e. student and financial records) of the University
  • OS/390 operating system
• Remote access is also available to the Alabama Supercomputer Authority's Cray SV1 supercomputer, located in Huntsville

Disk Drives

• SUN T3 Partner Pair with hardware RAID 5 for user storage on bama
• IBM 2105-F20 Enterprise Storage Server ("Shark") with 420 GB data storage capacity

Tape Subsystems

• Exabyte 220 tape library with dual 8 mm Mammoth drives
• IBM 3590/3494 MAGSTAR Robotics Tape Subsystem
• IBM 3490 Magnetic Tape Subsystem
• IBM 3420 Magnetic Tape Subsystem

Printers

• IBM 3900: 150 ppm (pages per minute) continuous feed laser printer
• IBM 2085: 85 images per minute cut sheet laser printer
• IBM 6262: 2200 lines per minute impact printer
• HP 8100: 32 ppm cut sheet laser printer (2)

Post Print Equipment

• Moore PS-1 pressure seal unit
• Moore PS-4 Turbo pressure seal unit
